Participants in this class will learn how to form the 5 most basic stitches in crochet, starting with the basic building blocks, holding the hook, maintaining tension and wrapping the yarn around the hook. The all important skill of “reading” your crochet stitches will also be covered. As we cover these basics, you will learn the first steps of reading a crochet pattern.

Learn  how toknite cables for the complete concept and the ideas behind cables.  Cables can be very intimidating, we will teach you so it can be fun and an easy way to add interest to your knitting. Cables are simpley the outcome of seeting stitches aside and knitting them in a different sequence.

MACRAME CLASSES

Macrame is an Arabic word, which literally translated, means fringe or braid. The then ancient Creative Knotting has been with us for centuries Nineteenth century sailors, knotted away many hours at sea creating practical nets and finally beautiful, designs.

BASIC KNOTS AND INTRODUCTION TO MACRAME

1. BEGINNER Knitting Class
Three 1 hour classes, 9:30 am to 10:30 am

Class . WEDNESDAY November 6, 13 and 20

2. Project Class – Chunky Fair Isle Mitten
Two 2 hour classes

Class . WEDNESDAY Dec 4 and 11, 9:30 am to 11:30 am
Learn how to carry yarn for Fair Isle knitting while making a great pair of chunky weight mittens in the round.

3. CAST ONS and CAST OFFS in Knitting
One 3 hour class

Class  FRIDAY November 15, 9:3 0am to12:30 pm

There are many different cast ons and cast offs that can be used in knitting. Learn why and when you use different cast ons and cast offs. We will look at provisional cast ons and other cast ons as well as different ways of casting off including 3 needle bind off and kitchener stitch. Please bring yarn and appropriate needles to class. You will also need a crochet hook, a darning needle and double pointed needles.

4. Project Class – TOE UP SOCK
Two 2 hour class, 9:30 am to 11:30 am

Class . SATURDAY November 30 and December 7

Never have to worry about having enough yarn for your toes. Learn to knit socks from the toe up. You will how to do Judy’s magic Cast On. Taught using double pointed needles but adaptable for 9” circular or magic loop. Socks are made using fingering weight.

5. Project Class – TWO-COLOUR BRIOCHE COWL
One 3 hour class , 9:30 am to 12:30 pm

Class . SATURDAY November 23

Learn two colour Brioche knitting in the round. Brioche knitting creates a lofty, widely ribbed fabric. Using two colours makes it easier to see the brioche stitches. Make a snuggly cowl while learning brioche stitches. For the intermediate level knitter. Please come with the ribbing on the cowl done and ready to start the brioche part of the cowl. Instructions will be provided upon registration.

6. Project Class – NEWFOUNDLAND MITTEN
Two 2 hour classes


Class  SATURDAY November 16 and 23, 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm

Learn to knit the traditional Newfoundland mitten using worsted weight yarn and double pointed needles. You need a plain colour for the background and a striping yarn for the contrasting “spots”. You could also use two contrasting colours, preferably a light and a dark.

7 Project Class – CHUNKY KNIT HAT
One 3 hour class, 9:30 am to 12:30 pm

FRIDAY December 6

Learn to knit a chunky weight in round using circular needles. Leave class with your completed hat.

7. Project Class – LOG CABIN FINGERLESS GLOVES
Two 2 hour classes

Class  FRIDAY November 1 and 8, 9:30 pm to 11:30 pm

Use up your worsted weight scraps to make these patchwork fingerless gloves. The gloves are done mostly in garter stitch ( all knit). Learn to pick up stitches and change colours.

9. Project Class – MOSAIC COWL
One 3 hour class,
Class . SATURDAY November 9, 12:30 pm to 3:30 pm

It looks like Fair Isle but it is slipped stitches used to give the look of Fair Isle. Learn to make a cowl while learning this knitting technique.

10. KNITTING IN THE ROUND
One 2 hour class

Learn the different ways you can knit in the round, including double pointed needles, circular and Magic Loop.

Learn how to knit a striped hat with 3 or more colours without jogs and creating an interesting swirl at the crown of the hat. We will be using worsted weight yarn in 3 colours.

PROJECT CLASS – CABLED BOOT CUFF
One 2 hour class,

Learn to knit cabled boot cuffs in the round using double pointed needles. Must know how to cast on, knit and purl. Cuffs are made using chunky weight yarn.

Project Class – FINGERLESS GLOVES
One 3 hour class,

Learn how to knit a worsted weight pair of gloves using double pointed needles. Great for texting..

You know how to cast on, knit and purl. This class will teach how to make increases and decreases, how to do simple lace and other stitch patterns as well as pattern reading.

Learn to Knit SOCKS cuff down using Magic Loop
Four 1 hour classes,

Learn to knit socks from the cuff down. You will learn to knit in the round using the magic loop method, how to turn a heel and the dreaded Kitchener stitch. Students will complete a full-sized fingering weight sock by the end of the 4 sessions.

10. Project Class – TOP-DOWN CHUNKY SWEATER
One 3 hour and two 2 hour classes,
Learn to knit a simple chunky weight, top down turtle neck sweater. The nice loose fit of the sweater will make it your favourite sweater for lounging around. Great first sweater project.

9. FIXING YOUR MISTAKES
One 2 hour class
Do you dread having to rip out all your work because you dropped a stitch? In this class you will learn how to pick up dropped stitches, how to uncross twisted stitches, unknit stitches and other tricks to fix your mistakes. Learn how to recognize your mistakes and how to decide if you need to fix a mistake. Participants are encouraged to bring in their mistakes.
